The Fence tells the story of the people who leave items on it, allowing viewers a glimpse into the lives of others and the passage of time. From championship Coke® bottles to Memorial Marathon medals, these items take us back and let us relive quintessential moments. Some markers of time are more personal.

The Happy Birthday card above was left for bombing victim Aaron M. Coverdale. Left on the Fence 15 years after the bombing, the card acts as a reminder of an event frozen in time and all the moments after the bombing that the victims and their families were not able to experience. Additionally, the card highlights how traditions, like birthday cards, can function as a token of honor, comfort and remembrance.
