Day One

Today we hosted the Day One Luncheon – marking the beginning of our 168 Days of Remembrance. It was an inspiring day of Looking Back and Thinking Forward.

Attendees heard from Survivor and Trustee Polly Nichols and Sara Sweet, whose father W. Stephen Williams was killed in the bombing. They shared their first person stories of April 19, 1995.

New York Times Bestseller and Pulitzer Prize–winning author Jon Meacham helped us understand why remembering is important and how by looking back at critical times in our history we understand that hope overcomes division.

Incoming Chairman Bob Ross and Executive Director Kari Watkins walked us through the Museum’s plans for 2020 and thanked outgoing Chairman Justice Steven Taylor for his work leading up to the event.

Co-chairs Mike Turpen and Sally Starling introduced the Looking Back, Thinking Forward Fund – a $14 million campaign to sustain the ongoing work of the Memorial and Museum. We invite you all to help us be a place where people find themselves working through their own loss and grief, inspired by the example forged here.

This is just the beginning… In preparation for the 25th Anniversary, we set out to design a website that would match the experience visitors have when they come to the Memorial and Museum. We hope you’ll explore it here at MemorialMuseum.com. It will serve as our digital hub for all 2020 events.
