Today, we kicked off a Journey of Hope at Deer Creek Middle School. For the next few months, the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum will travel to all 77 counties across Oklahoma, inspiring students, church groups, civic clubs, individuals, and families to embody the Oklahoma Standard. This Journey of Hope will carry the 30th anniversary message “A Day of Darkness – Years of Light” throughout the state.
Students heard from Cheryl Baldwin Taylor, who was a teacher at Deer Creek Middle School. She explained how Deer Creek responded to the bombing by writing poems and letters of support to rescue workers.
Afterwards, the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Food & Forestry helped students plant a Survivor Tree sapling on school property.
Thank you to Senator Greg Treat, Rep. Denise Crosswhite Hader, Rep. Mickey Dollens, Rep. Ellyn Hefner, Sen. Carri Hicks, and Leader Cyndi Munson for representing Oklahoma County and helping spread the Memorial mission across our great state!
