9/11 Virtual Hope Trunk – A Shared Experience

Oklahoma City’s hope was that no other place would ever know the shock and fear of a morning like April 19, 1995. However, on September 11, 2001, just six months after the Memorial Museum opened in Oklahoma City – terror struck again. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the terrorist attack that killed nearly 3,000 people. As we remember those who were killed, we are reminded of the shared experiences and the human response to the terrorist attacks in Oklahoma City, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania and how good always triumphs evil. Explore the new 4/19 and 9/11 – A Shared Experience Virtual Hope Trunk. The Trunk reveals these connections through 3D objects, deep zoom images, videos and more.

Shared Voices | 04.19.95 – 09.11.01 was released in September 2002 as part of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum’s A Shared Experience exhibit. The exhibit highlighted the similarities in response to the Oklahoma City bombing and 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Visits to the Memorial and Museum offer students the opportunity to experience firsthand the impact the April 19, 1995, bombing had on countless individuals through stories from those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever. Students also have the opportunity to see how careers in STEM played a critical role in the rescue, recovery and investigation through interactive touch-screen tables during their visit.

*For everyone’s safety, masks are required inside the Memorial Museum for all K-12 school groups.
