Swim Meet Trophies
2006
In 2006, Oklahoma City hosted the Central Zone Championships, a large swim meet for teenagers that brought competitors from many states. The Ohio Zone team placed third in that meet. On their way out of town, they stopped at the Memorial and left their trophies at the Fence. The Ohio coordinator later sent an email to a Museum staff member, explaining that this was the kids’ idea, and that it took the coaches off guard. The kids explained: “We only take home memories, and one of those memories is the Memorial.”
We are grateful for kids like this—adults now—who felt called to leave an important piece of themselves at the Fence, and who help us remember.
