2013

Since the early days after the bombing, children have sent and left items at the Fence regularly. Their empathy and desire to help were some of the defining characteristics of the response to the bombing. This collection of notes and yarn braids strung together hold those children’s feelings within them. Their message of, “We will always be tied to you” rings true; after all this time, this tragedy continues to affect the community. Whether through the Memorial Marathon, educational efforts in the classroom or simply coming back to remember, adults and children alike continue to remember the bombing and honor those impacted. The three yarn strands represent not only the hard work and sentiment of the children who created it, but also honors those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever.
