Bracelet from the Firefighters Who Did a Bike Ride For 9/11
2011
While the Memorial and the Fence construct places of hope and remembrance, another key event to honor those impacted is the Memorial Marathon. What started as a 2001 fundraiser has blossomed into a “must-run,” Boston qualifying race, and this Marathon allowed for a new way to honor those who were killed.
This bracelet from a group of California firefighters embodies that same spirit. The “Ride For 9/11” was a bike ride from California to New York in honor of those killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks. These physically strenuous events occur to celebrate life, honor victims and reunite people with hope. The firefighters who left this bracelet on the Fence not only connected us to their journey, but also connected everyone as a nation united in the fight against violence.
