Beaded Rosary with Wooden Crucifix at the End

2007

Items of faith showed up on the Fence in the very early days after the bombing. Rosaries have been particularly common items. This rosary is more elaborate than many left on the Fence. Normally, you would see plastic rosaries, however, this one is metal with smooth rocks for the prayer beads. The crucifix is wooden and large, with a metal depiction of Jesus on the cross.

Unlike some decorative crosses or those used for jewelry, rosaries are used as a tool for prayer and meditation. Thus, their existence on the Fence can be seen as a kind of prayer for protection, and an emblem of solemnity to mark the sacred space of the Memorial.
