National Register of Historic Places

As part of the 20th Anniversary Remembrance events the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum and GSA Plaza was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. The Memorial’s nomination went through the State Historic Preservation Office which in 1995 was housed in the Journal Record Building and heavily damaged in the April 19, 1995 bombing. The Journal Record Building is now the site of the Memorial Museum. The SHPO survivors, Melvena Heisch, Susan Kline and Cindy Savage, who worked to put the historic place on the National Register, were part of Wednesday’s ceremony. Chairman of the Board Susan Winchester, Executive Director Kari Watkins, Oklahoma Historical Society Executive Director Dr. Bob Blackburn, National Park Service State Coordinator Bill Wright, and GSA Regional Commissioner Jim Weller all spoke at the unveiling.
