Our monthly Better Conversations lunch series resumes in August. As the school year kicks off, join us as we explore the front lines of our democracy’s future: the digital environment where our students learn to be citizens.
In response to the violence that shook the nation on April 19, 1995, the Memorial Task Force crafted words that guide us still in our Mission Statement: “instill an understanding of the senselessness of violence, especially as a means of effecting government change.” Today, the imperative to reject violence remains as urgent as ever, but the landscape has shifted. Our public discourse – the fabric of our civic life – is increasingly mediated by algorithms, polarization, and a flood of unverified information. Preparing our students to be engaged, informed citizens is not what it used to be. How do we meet the challenge?
